Wounded Fox From Lambeg Area

UPDATE ON WOUNDED FOX FROM LAMBEG AREA

The USPCA received lots of rightly concerned calls from residents in the lambeg area about this little fox who was wounded and wandering the streets in daylight.

A USPCA wildlife volunteer and wildlife officer both spent a few days actively searching for her. When she was found, she was transported back to our centre for treatment. Sadly, she was in such a critical state, her little body couldn't fight anymore despite the very best efforts from the veterinary team.

When the team shaved back her fur, they saw the severity of her wounds which were extensive. They were badly infected and appeared to be several weeks old. It is hard to say if another animal had bitten her or if she had become caught in something like barbed wire. The fox was skin and bone, half the weight she should have been and didn't have the strength to feed.

Our vets meticulously clipped, cleaned, debrided and flushed out the wounds as well as removing all the ticks which she was covered in. She was then given medication, kept warm and made as comfortable as possible.

We really hoped we would have been able to report better news. As with any injured wild animal, we really tried our best with this little fox. She deserved a chance, and we certainly would have preferred a long road to recovery and eventual release for her.

A big thanks to a wonderful community who have come together in the interest of this beautiful fox to show so much compassion and kindness. Kindness that all animals deserve.
