USPCA appeals for food bank donations to help pets stay with families during hard times

The USPCA is appealing for food bank donations to help pets stay with their families during difficult times. The animal welfare charity's pet food parcels initiative has been operating for six years, and last year saw 7,879 pet food parcels donated.

The parcels are currently delivered to 50 foodbanks throughout Northern Ireland, both independent and through the Trussell Trust.

Mayor Neil Kelly joined them to deliver the first food parcels to the area's local Trussell Trust food bank on Thursday morning as part of this ongoing commitment.

He said: "I am immensely proud to support the incredible work of the USPCA as they deliver pet food parcels to those most in need in our community. In these challenging times, their efforts are a lifeline, not only for vulnerable animals but also for families struggling to care for their beloved pets.

"This initiative is only one aspect of the USPCA's vital work and reflects the compassion and generosity of the entire USPCA team. I encourage everyone to support this essential work."

USPCA Chief Executive Nora Smith said: "USPCA's pet food bank programme is an initiative that collects pet food donations from across the region. In partnership, with the Trussell Trust, these pet food parcels have been shared with over 50 food banks.

"With over 7,879 pet food parcels donated last year, the charity is helping to tackle the issue of pet poverty, supporting pets to remain with their families during difficult times.

"Pet poverty is a significant concern in amny communities, USPCA is committed to providing practical support to those in need. We thank Trussell Trust and the Mayor for the support they have provided."

USPCA is appealing to the public for donations. Those who'd like to support the project are invited to contribute pet food supplies or make financial donations to help the charity continue its essential work in supporting families in need.
