Fully Embracing National Walk Your Dog Month

With the festivities and merriment of Christmas now a distant memory, we are now all well and truly springing back into action to embrace the New Year. The start of a brand new year brings on a great feeling of opportunity and focus as we look towards our plans for the months ahead. Very often, featured in amongst our list of goals that we aim to tackle throughout the year, is improving our overall health and fitness – which of course means grabbing our exercise gear and taking on the great outdoors with walks and runs!

Although sometimes the novelty of our New Year’s resolutions can start to wear off just a few weeks in, the good news is that you shouldn’t have to take on the challenge by yourself. For all our pooch parents out there, why not get some great quality time with your four-legged friend and celebrate National Walk Your Dog Month?

Understandably, keeping well away from the cold, crisp outdoors can be reason enough for you to limit your walks and instead binge TV from the comfort of your sofa – however – there are too many benefits of National Walk Your Dog Month, to ignore. The month aims to break up your routine and encourages you to increase your pet’s daily exercise routine, with a positive knock-on effect on the health of both you and your much-loved pet. Dust of the January blues, get out and about, enjoy the beautiful wintery weather conditions, and improve you and your dog’s wellbeing, both physically and mentally.

Of course, the USPCA Pet Supplies Shop is on hand to ensure that your dog can take part in this year’s National Walk Your Dog month in style. The Shop has a great range of Ancol All Weather coats to protect from the harsh winter conditions and, for those longer treks or hikes, the Ancol Extreme Harness, which is designed with your pet’s comfort in mind and offers increased functionality with two tool holders and an accessory clip.

We hope you get great enjoyment this National Walk Your Dog Month – simply wrap both you and your pet up well to protect against the elements, pick your favourite local walking route, and you’re off!

If you would like to give yourself more of a challenge to kick-start the year, why not sign up for our latest challenge ‘Trek for Tails’ to help raise much-needed funds for the USPCA, supporting our work in helping vulnerable animals throughout Northern Ireland? Visit here for more information!
