Support the Public Consultation on Introducing a Ban on Hunting with Dogs in Northern Ireland

The USPCA is appealing to its wide network of supporters to engage in an ongoing public consultation lead by John Blair MLA which seeks your views on the introduction of a ban on the cruel ‘sport’ of hunting defenceless wild animals with dogs. Northern Ireland remains the only part of the UK where this horrific activity is currently still legal.

Please take 3-4 minutes of your time to complete the consultation and send a strong message of public support for the ban. The survey can be found here and is live until 12th February 2021.  We encourage you to also share this widely with your friends and family.

Those arguing against such a ban will point to the erosion of country life traditions or pest control. It is questionable whether such arguments have any basis in fact and even if they did, our view is that in an advanced and compassionate society, the sadistic and cruel killing of defenceless wild animals with dogs cannot be justified.

Your support on this issue through the public consultation is essential and a critical first step which will enable John Blair MLA to take forward a Private Members Bill to introduce the ban in Northern Ireland. A ban which will greatly improve our animal welfare legislation and bring us in line with the rest of the UK.

Please help us put an end to this terrible cruelty.
