The USPCA would like to thank Newry Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service very much for their outstanding effort in helping rescue a pony this morning which had become trapped in a drainage ditch.
After USPCA received a call from a concerned member of public who had spotted the pony, USPCA attended and found the stricken animal stuck to neck level in mud and water.
The pony had obviously been stuck there for a considerable length of time as it was very weak, shivering and visibly distressed.
Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service were immediately contacted and arrived a short time later.
With the help of two kind local farmers and Newry Veterinary Centre Vet, Mr Liam Fitzsimons, Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue eventually rescued the poor animal and it is now recovering well.
Well done to all involved!
