Large Animals Straying are a Danger on our Roads

The tragic loss of life and injuries caused in a collision with a horse are a stark reminder of the dangers posed by large animals straying on public roads.

The on-going spate of equine abandonment heightens the risk of death or injury to both animals and the public.

If horses are seen to be straying and no owner is evident this must be reported the Animal Welfare Officer for the appropriate Council Area (see for contact details) and PSNI.

The Council is responsible for all aspects of companion animal welfare and the PSNI with the risk to road users.
